- Administrative officer: means the chief administrative officer, county administrator, county executive, county manager, or other officials employed in the several counties under various titles whose duties and responsibilities are comparable to the officials named herein. See California Government Code 29001
- Adopted budget: means the budget document formally approved by the board of supervisors after the required public hearings and deliberations on the recommended budget. See California Government Code 29001
- assessment: includes "standby charges" and other charges levied for the use of district water. See California Water Code 37210
- Association: means any corporation organized under this part. See California Corporations Code 13202
- Auditor: means the county auditor or that officer whose responsibilities include those designated in Chapter 4 (commencing with Section 26900) of Division 2. See California Government Code 29001
- award: as used in this chapter , may include, but is not limited to, contracts, grants, interagency agreements, loans, and other financial agreements designed to fund public interest research, demonstration, and development projects or programs. See California Public Resources Code 25620.1
- Board: means the board of supervisors of the county, or the same body acting as the governing board of a special district whose affairs and finances are under its supervision and control. See California Government Code 29001
- Board of supervisors: means the board of supervisors of each county within which a district is located. See California Water Code 37202
- Business: includes every trade, occupation, and profession. See California Corporations Code 16101
- Case law: The law as laid down in cases that have been decided in the decisions of the courts.
- Controller: means the State Controller. See California Government Code 29001
- County: includes city and county. See California Water Code 14
- department: means the Department of Transportation. See California Public Resources Code 25480
- Distribution: means a transfer of money or other property from a partnership to a partner in the partner's capacity as a partner or to the partner's transferee. See California Corporations Code 16101
- Electronic transmission by the partnership: means a communication (a) delivered by (1) facsimile telecommunication or electronic mail when directed to the facsimile number or electronic mail address, respectively, for that recipient on record with the partnership, (2) posting on an electronic message board or network that the partnership has designated for those communications, together with a separate notice to the recipient of the posting, which transmission shall be validly delivered upon the later of the posting or delivery of the separate notice thereof, or (3) other means of electronic communication, (b) to a recipient who has provided an unrevoked consent to the use of those means of transmission, and (c) that creates a record that is capable of retention, retrieval, and review, and that may thereafter be rendered into clearly legible tangible form. - enterprise: means systems, plants, works, or undertakings used or useful in the collection, treatment, and disposal of waste, refuse, and garbage, or of sewage, waste, and storm water. See California Government Code 54727
- environment: means the aggregate of all factors that influence the conditions of life in or about the state or within any portion thereof, and which are affected by the use of pesticides or related materials within the state. See California Food and Agricultural Code 14101
- Fair Credit Reporting Act: A federal law, established in 1971 and revised in 1997, that gives consumers the right to see their credit records and correct any mistakes. Source: OCC
- Final budget: means the adopted budget adjusted by all revisions throughout the fiscal year as of June 30. See California Government Code 29001
- Foreign limited liability partnership: means a partnership, other than a limited partnership, formed pursuant to an agreement governed by the laws of another jurisdiction and denominated or registered as a limited liability partnership or registered limited liability partnership under the laws of that jurisdiction (i) in which each partner is a licensed person or a person licensed or authorized to provide professional limited liability partnership services in a jurisdiction or jurisdictions other than this state, (ii) which is licensed under the laws of the state to engage in the practice of architecture, the practice of public accountancy, the practice of engineering, the practice of land surveying, or the practice of law, or (iii) which (I) is related to a registered limited liability partnership that practices public accountancy or, to the extent permitted by the State Bar of California, practices law or is related to a foreign limited liability partnership and (II) provides services related or complementary to the professional limited liability partnership services provided by, or provides services or facilities to, that registered limited liability partnership or foreign limited liability partnership. - Garnishment: Generally, garnishment is a court proceeding in which a creditor asks a court to order a third party who owes money to the debtor or otherwise holds assets belonging to the debtor to turn over to the creditor any of the debtor
- Joint committee: Committees including membership from both houses of teh legislature. Joint committees are usually established with narrow jurisdictions and normally lack authority to report legislation.
- Legislative body: means the board of supervisors or its chairman in the case of the county, or the city council or the mayor in the case of a city. See California Government Code 54971
- Legislative body: means the board of supervisors in the case of a county or a city and county, the city council or board of trustees in the case of a city, and the board of directors or other governing body in the case of a district. See California Government Code 54980
- Licensed person: means any person who is duly licensed, authorized, or registered under the provisions of the Business and Professions Code to provide professional limited liability partnership services or who is lawfully able to render professional limited liability partnership services in this state. See California Corporations Code 16101
- Licensing board: means any board, as defined in Section 22, the State Bar of California, and the Department of Real Estate. See California Business and Professions Code 30
- Local agency: means a county or city, whether chartered or general law. See California Government Code 54971
- Local agency: means any county, city, city and county, or public district which provides or has authority to provide or perform municipal services or functions. See California Government Code 54980
- Local agency: means county, city, or any public district empowered to distribute water or engage in flood control. See California Government Code 54280
- Municipal services or functions: includes , but is not limited to, firefighting, police, ambulance, utility services, and the improvement, maintenance, repair, and operation of streets and highways. See California Government Code 54980
- Oath: includes affirmation. See California Financial Code 16
- Oath: includes affirmation. See California Business and Professions Code 20
- Partnership: means an association of two or more persons to carry on as coowners a business for profit formed under Section 16202, predecessor law, or comparable law of another jurisdiction, and includes, for all purposes of the laws of this state, a registered limited liability partnership, and excludes any partnership formed under Chapter 4. See California Corporations Code 16101
- Partnership agreement: means the agreement, whether written, oral, or implied, among the partners concerning the partnership, including amendments to the partnership agreement. See California Corporations Code 16101
- Person: means any person, firm, association, organization, partnership, business trust, corporation, limited liability company, or company. See California Water Code 19
- Person: means an individual, corporation, business trust, estate, trust, partnership, limited partnership, limited liability partnership, limited liability company, association, joint venture, government, governmental subdivision, agency, or instrumentality, or any other legal or commercial entity. See California Corporations Code 16101
- President pro tempore: A constitutionally recognized officer of the Senate who presides over the chamber in the absence of the Vice President. The President Pro Tempore (or, "president for a time") is elected by the Senate and is, by custom, the Senator of the majority party with the longest record of continuous service.
- Professional limited liability partnership services: means the practice of architecture, the practice of public accountancy, the practice of engineering, the practice of land surveying, or the practice of law. See California Corporations Code 16101
- Property: means all property, real, personal, or mixed, tangible or intangible, or any interest therein. See California Corporations Code 16101
- Punchcard: means a tabulating card on which the voter may record his or her vote by punching, marking, or slotting. See California Elections Code 344
- Recommended budget: means the budget document recommended to the board of supervisors by the designated county official. See California Government Code 29001
- Registered limited liability partnership: means a partnership, other than a limited partnership, formed pursuant to an agreement governed by Article 10 (commencing with Section 16951), that is registered under Section 16953 and (i) each of the partners of which is a licensed person or a person licensed or authorized to provide professional limited liability partnership services in a jurisdiction or jurisdictions other than this state, (ii) is licensed under the laws of the state to engage in the practice of architecture, the practice of public accountancy, the practice of engineering, the practice of land surveying, or the practice of law, or (iii)(I) is related to a registered limited liability partnership that practices public accountancy or, to the extent permitted by the State Bar of California, practices law or is related to a foreign limited liability partnership and (II) provides services related or complementary to the professional limited liability partnership services provided by, or provides services or facilities to, that registered limited liability partnership or foreign limited liability partnership. - Solar device: means the equipment associated with the collection, transfer, distribution, storage, and control of solar energy. See California Public Resources Code 25600
- Spouse: includes "registered domestic partner" as required by §. See California Business and Professions Code 14.2
- State: means the State of California, unless applied to the different parts of the United States. See California Water Code 18
- State: means the State of California or any department, agency, or officer thereof. See California Government Code 54280
- State: means a state of the United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or any territory or insular possession subject to the jurisdiction of the United States. See California Corporations Code 16101
- state board: whenever used in this code means the State Board of Education, unless the context requires otherwise. See California Education Code 88
- Statement: means a statement of partnership authority under Section 16303, a statement of denial under Section 16304, a statement of dissociation under Section 16704, a statement of dissolution under Section 16805, a statement of conversion or a certificate of conversion under Section 16906, a statement of merger under Section 16915, or an amendment or cancellation of any of the foregoing. See California Corporations Code 16101
- Subdivision: means a subdivision of the section in which that term occurs unless some other section is expressly mentioned. See California Water Code 10
- toxic air contaminant: means an air pollutant that may cause or contribute to an increase in mortality or an increase in serious illness, or which may pose a present or potential hazard to human health. See California Food and Agricultural Code 14021
- Transfer: includes an assignment, conveyance, lease, mortgage, deed, and encumbrance. See California Corporations Code 16101
- United States: includes any department, board, agency, or officer thereof. See California Government Code 54280
- Usury: Charging an illegally high interest rate on a loan. Source: OCC
- water district: means any district or other political subdivision, other than a city or county, a primary function of which is the irrigation, reclamation, or drainage of land or the diversion, storage, or distribution of water primarily for domestic, municipal, agricultural, industrial, recreation, fish and wildlife enhancement, flood control, or power production purposes.
