  • City: includes every city and city and county within this State. See California Vehicle Code 255
  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • County: includes every county and city and county within this State. See California Vehicle Code 270
  • Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
  • Department: means the Department of Motor Vehicles except, when used in Chapter 2 (commencing with Section 2100) of Division 2 and in Divisions 11 (commencing with Section 21000), 12 (commencing with Section 24000), 13 (commencing with Section 29000), 14 (commencing with Section 31600), 14.   • Employee: includes an officer, employee, or servant, whether or not compensated, but does not include an independent contractor. See California Vehicle Code 17000
