A resource family approval shall be forfeited by operation of law when one of the following occurs:

(a) The resource family surrenders the approval to the county child welfare agency or probation department.

  • County: includes "city and county. See California Welfare and Institutions Code 14
  • Probation: A sentencing alternative to imprisonment in which the court releases convicted defendants under supervision as long as certain conditions are observed.

(b) The sole resource family parent dies.

(c) The resource family abandons the approved home.

(d) The resource family fails to cooperate with a biennial update, as described in paragraph (6) of subdivision (g) of Section 16519.5, within 30 days of the date of written notice by the county child welfare agency or probation department.

(e) A resource family approval is forfeited by operation of law, as provided in Section 16519.58 of this code or § 1517.5 of the Health and Safety Code.
