(a) Upon the granting of a certificate of public convenience and necessity, the holder of such certificate may apply for the registration of any motor bus of which such holder is the owner or lessee and which is to be used as specified in such certificate. The Commissioner of Motor Vehicles shall have jurisdiction over the registration of any motor bus, its exterior lighting equipment and the licensing of its operator.

(b) The holder of a certificate of public convenience and necessity, issued in accordance with the provisions of § 13b-103 for the operation of a passenger vehicle which has seats for more than ten passengers in addition to the driver, may apply for the registration of such vehicle as a motor bus, provided such holder is the owner or lessee of such vehicle and such vehicle is to be used as specified in such certificate. The Commissioner of Motor Vehicles shall have jurisdiction over the registration of any such vehicle and its exterior lighting equipment and over the licensing of its operator. Any such vehicle so registered may operate exclusively in livery service in accordance with the provisions of chapter 244b.
