(1) All nursing programs requesting Board of Nursing approval must conform with the Florida Department of Education curriculum framework.

Terms Used In Florida Regulations 64B9-2.021

  • Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
    (2) In order to ensure the preparation of nurses capable of competent practice, the curriculum shall:
    (a) Reflect the stated philosophy and objectives of the program.
    (b) Evidence an organized pattern of instruction consistent with principles of learning and sound educational practices.
    (c) Provide for systematic evaluation of student learning in both clinical experience and theoretical instruction.
    (d) Evidence ongoing program evaluation in relation to currency of content, competency of instruction, adequacy of clinical experiences and effectiveness of graduate performance.
    (3) Each nursing program and each campus offering nursing education require separate individual approval by the Board. Programs may be offered in the following categories:
    (a) Professional nursing education programs that terminate in a bachelor’s degree.
    (b) Professional nursing education programs that terminate in an associate’s degree.
    (c) Professional nursing education programs that terminate in a diploma.
    (d) Practical nursing education programs.
    (4) Specific minimum requirements for professional nursing education programs:
    (a) Content:
    1. Medical,
    2. Surgical,
    3. Obstetrics,
    4. Pediatrics,
    5. Psychiatric,
    6. Geriatric,
    7. Acute care, long term care and community settings,
    8. Personal, family, and community health concepts,
    9. Nutrition,
    10. Human growth and development throughout the life span,
    11. Body structure and function,
    12. Interpersonal relationship and leadership skills,
    13. Mental health concepts,
    14. Pharmacology and administration of medication,
    15. Legal aspects of practice,
    16. Professional role and function, and
    17. Health teaching and counseling skills.
    (b) Percentage of clinical:
    1. The curriculum for professional nursing programs that terminate in a bachelor’s degree must consist of at least 40% clinical training.
    2. The curriculums for professional nursing programs that terminate in an associate’s degree and professional nursing programs that terminate in a diploma must consist of at least 50% clinical training.
    (5) Specific minimum requirements for practical nursing programs.
    (a) Content:
    1. Medical,
    2. Surgical,
    3. Obstetrics,
    4. Pediatrics,
    5. Geriatric,
    6. Acute care, long term care and community settings,
    7. Personal, family, and community health concepts,
    8. Nutrition,
    9. Human growth and development throughout the life span,

    12. Mental health concepts,

    14. Legal aspects of practice.
    (b) The curriculum must consist of at least 50% clinical training.
