Terms Used In Hawaii Revised Statutes 353D-8

  • Department: means that department of the State that has jurisdiction over the administration of the correctional facilities. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 353D-2
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.

Nothing in this chapter is intended to limit the department in developing additional programs or making all reasonable efforts to promote services to families of offenders under its jurisdiction.
