- abortion: has the meaning set forth in IC 16-18-2-1. See Indiana Code 16-34-6-1
- Affidavit: A written statement of facts confirmed by the oath of the party making it, before a notary or officer having authority to administer oaths.
- any other disability: means any disease, defect, or disorder that is genetically inherited. See Indiana Code 16-34-4-1
- Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
- Arrest: Taking physical custody of a person by lawful authority.
- Attorney: includes a counselor or other person authorized to appear and represent a party in an action or special proceeding. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
- Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
- Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
- Down syndrome: means a chromosomal disorder associated with an extra chromosome 21 or an effective trisomy for chromosome 21. See Indiana Code 16-34-4-2
- Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
- fund: refers to the rural broadband fund established by Indiana Code 4-4-38-0.3
- Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.
- Injunction: An order of the court prohibiting (or compelling) the performance of a specific act to prevent irreparable damage or injury.
- Judgment: means all final orders, decrees, and determinations in an action and all orders upon which executions may issue. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
- mandatory reporter: means any person providing health care services, including:

- medical record: means written or printed information possessed by a provider (as defined in IC 16-18-2-295) concerning any diagnosis, treatment, or prognosis of the patient, unless otherwise defined. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
- minor: means a person less than eighteen (18) years of age. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
- office: refers to the office of community and rural affairs established by Indiana Code 4-4-37-2
- person: means any of the following:

- physician: means any person licensed to practice medicine in Indiana. See Indiana Code 16-34-6-3
- Plaintiff: The person who files the complaint in a civil lawsuit.
- potential diagnosis: refers to the presence of some risk factors that indicate that a health problem may occur. See Indiana Code 16-34-4-3
- preservation: means the application of measures to sustain the form, integrity, and material of:
Indiana Code 4-4-37-4
- qualified broadband service: means a connection to the Internet that provides capacity for transmission at an actual speed of at least ten (10) megabits per second downstream and at least one (1) megabit per second upstream, regardless of the technology or medium used to provide the connection. See Indiana Code 4-4-38-5
- rehabilitation: means the process of returning a property to a state of utility through repair or alteration that makes possible an efficient contemporary use while preserving the parts or features of the property that are significant to the historical or architectural values of the property. See Indiana Code 4-4-37-6
- Reporter: Makes a record of court proceedings and prepares a transcript, and also publishes the court's opinions or decisions (in the courts of appeals).
- reproductive health care facility: means any office, clinic, or other physical location licensed by the state to provide surgical or medical abortions, abortion counseling, abortion referrals, contraceptives, contraceptive counseling, sex education, or gynecological services. See Indiana Code 16-34-6-4
- sex selective abortion: means an abortion that is performed solely because of the sex of the fetus. See Indiana Code 16-34-4-4
