Terms Used In Kansas Statutes 74-3299

  • Board: means the board of education of any school district or the board of trustees of any community college. See Kansas Statutes 74-32,253
  • Board of regents: means the state board of regents provided for in the constitution of this state and described in article 32 of chapter 74 of Kansas Statutes Annotated. See Kansas Statutes 74-3278
  • Committee: means the nursing service scholarship review committee established under Kan. See Kansas Statutes 74-3292
  • Executive officer: means the chief executive officer of the state board of regents appointed under Kan. See Kansas Statutes 74-3292
  • Institution: means the university of Kansas, university of Kansas medical center, Kansas state university of agriculture and applied science, Wichita state university, Emporia state university, Pittsburg state university, Fort Hays state university and Kansas state university polytechnic campus;

    (b) "governing authority" means the state board of regents or the chief executive officer of an institution if such officer has been designated by the state board to act on its behalf in exercising the authority of the board to care for, control, maintain and supervise all roads, streets, driveways and parking facilities for vehicles on the grounds of the institution; and

    (c) "vehicle" means motor vehicle, motorized bicycle and bicycle. See Kansas Statutes 74-3209

  • Oversight: Committee review of the activities of a Federal agency or program.
  • Program: means the Kansas work-study program established by this act. See Kansas Statutes 74-3275
  • Quorum: The number of legislators that must be present to do business.
  • School of nursing: means a school within the state of Kansas which is approved by the state board of nursing to grant an associate degree or a baccalaureate degree in professional nursing or a certificate of completion in practical nursing and is:

    (1) Under the control and supervision of the state board of regents;

    (2) a municipal university; or

    (3) a not-for-profit independent institution of higher education that has its main campus or principal place of operation in Kansas, maintains open enrollment as such term is defined in Kan. See Kansas Statutes 74-3292

  • State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories. See Kansas Statutes 77-201
  • State board: means the state board of regents. See Kansas Statutes 74-3275
  • State educational institution: has the meaning ascribed thereto in Kan. See Kansas Statutes 74-3255
  • Term: means one of two or more substantially equivalent divisions of the academic year of an eligible institution. See Kansas Statutes 74-3284

(a) There is hereby created the nursing service scholarship review committee which shall consist of the following members appointed by the governor: One member representing Kansas hospitals; one member representing Kansas adult care homes; one member representing Kansas registered nurses; one member representing nursing education programs other than at a state educational institution; and the chief executive officer of a state educational institution which has a school of nursing.

(b) The members of the nursing service scholarship review committee appointed by the governor shall be appointed for three-year terms and shall serve until their successors are appointed and qualified. Upon the vacancy of a position appointed by the governor, the governor shall appoint a person of like qualifications to fill such position. If a vacancy occurs prior to the expiration of a term, the governor shall appoint a person of like qualifications to fill such position for the unexpired term.

(c) The nursing service scholarship review committee shall elect annually from among its members a chairperson. The committee shall meet on the call of the chairperson or upon the request of a majority of the members of the committee. A majority of the members of the committee shall constitute a quorum.

(d) The nursing service scholarship review committee shall provide oversight of the nursing service scholarship program and shall be advisory to the executive officer and the state board of regents in the administration of such program. The committee shall exercise such other powers and duties as may be specified by law.

(e) The executive officer and other office staff of the state board of regents shall provide staff assistance to the nursing service scholarship review committee.

(f) The members of the nursing service scholarship review committee who are not state officers or employees and who are attending meetings of such committee, or attending a subcommittee meeting thereof authorized by such committee, shall be eligible for amounts provided in subsection (e) of Kan. Stat. Ann. § 75-3223, and amendments thereto. Amounts paid under this subsection (f) shall be from appropriations to the state board of regents upon warrants of the director of accounts and reports issued pursuant to vouchers approved by the executive officer or a person designated by the executive officer.
