  • Adult: means a person who has attained the age of 18 years. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
  • Affirmed: In the practice of the appellate courts, the decree or order is declared valid and will stand as rendered in the lower court.
  • Assets: (1) The property comprising the estate of a deceased person, or (2) the property in a trust account.
  • Bonds: means bonds of the bank issued under this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5903
  • certified seed: as used in this Title shall be deemed to mean potato, vegetable, forage crop or grain seeds as shall have been grown and prepared for sale in accordance with regulations laid down by the commissioner and for which a certificate or tag has been issued as provided in section 2103. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 2101
  • Certified seed source: means a source of hemp seeds that are certified by a 3rd party as producing hemp having a delta?9?tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of not more than 0. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 2231
  • Clerk of court: An officer appointed by the court to work with the chief judge in overseeing the court's administration, especially to assist in managing the flow of cases through the court and to maintain court records.
  • Clone: means a hemp plant produced using any part of another hemp plant other than the seeds of that hemp plant. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 2231
  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
  • Equipment purchases: means the purchase of new or updated equipment and any capital improvements necessary to use the new or updated equipment by career and technical education centers or career and technical education regions. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5903
  • Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
  • Ginseng: means any part of the plant known as Wild American Ginseng (Panax quinquefolius 1). See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 2221
  • Governmental unit: means any county, municipality, school administrative district, community school district, public waste disposal corporation as authorized under Title 38, section 1304?B or other quasi-municipal corporation within the State, including any corporation owned entirely by a municipality and providing water, sewer or electric service or performing other essential governmental functions. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5903

  • Hemp: includes agricultural commodities and products derived from hemp and topical or ingestible consumer products, including food, food additives and food products derived from hemp, which in their final forms contain a delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of not more than 0. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 2231
  • in writing: include printing and other modes of making legible words. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
  • Indictment: The formal charge issued by a grand jury stating that there is enough evidence that the defendant committed the crime to justify having a trial; it is used primarily for felonies.
  • Indoor facility: means a building, greenhouse, cold frame, hoop house, high tunnel, floating row cover or other agricultural or horticultural method of extending the growing season by enclosing the growing area. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 2231
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Juror: A person who is on the jury.
  • key participant: means a person who, as determined by the commissioner by rule, has a direct or indirect financial interest in an entity producing hemp, such as an owner or partner in a partnership. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 2231
  • Lease: A contract transferring the use of property or occupancy of land, space, structures, or equipment in consideration of a payment (e.g., rent). Source: OCC
  • Municipal bond: means a bond or note or evidence of debt issued by a municipality and payable from taxes or from rates, charges or assessments, but does not include any bond or note or evidence of debt issued under chapter 213 or Title 10, chapter 110, subchapter IV.   • Notes: means any notes of the bank issued under this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5903
  • Obligation: An order placed, contract awarded, service received, or similar transaction during a given period that will require payments during the same or a future period.
  • Partnership: A voluntary contract between two or more persons to pool some or all of their assets into a business, with the agreement that there will be a proportional sharing of profits and losses.
  • Person: means an individual, corporation, partnership, firm, organization or other legal entity. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 2001
  • Real property: Land, and all immovable fixtures erected on, growing on, or affixed to the land.
  • Subpoena: A command to a witness to appear and give testimony.
  • Summons: Another word for subpoena used by the criminal justice system.
  • Testify: Answer questions in court.
  • Testimony: Evidence presented orally by witnesses during trials or before grand juries.
  • United States: includes territories and the District of Columbia. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
  • Year: means a calendar year, unless otherwise expressed. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
