- Aboveground flammable liquid storage facility: means any aboveground storage tank or tanks containing flammable liquids, together with associated piping, transfer and dispensing facilities. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 25 Sec. 2481

Appeals board: means the Maine Library Commission acting, on request from interested citizens, as a board of review for decisions made concerning the State's library plan. Classic vehicle: means a motor vehicle that is at least 16 years old but less than 26 years old that the Secretary of State determines is of significance to vehicle collectors because of its make, model and condition and is valued at more than $5,000. Juvenile: means a person who had not attained 18 years of age at the time the person allegedly committed a juvenile crime. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Motorized wheelchair: means a battery-powered device used exclusively for the transportation of an individual with a physical disability. Owner: means a person holding title to a vehicle or having exclusive right to the use of the vehicle for a period of 30 days or more. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Parent: means either a natural parent or the adoptive parent of a juvenile. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 15 Sec. 3003 Parking area: means an area designed for use as access or parking for patrons and customers of establishments to which the public is invited. Pedestrian: means a person on foot or an operator of a wheelchair or a 4-wheeled or 3-wheeled motorized wheelchair. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Permit: means the nontransferable permission granted by the commissioner containing one or more of the following endorsements: use, storage and intrastate transportation of explosives. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 25 Sec. 2471 Permit: means the nontransferable permission granted by the commissioner for a person to install, construct or otherwise establish an aboveground flammable liquid storage facility or a retail motor fuel facility dispensing flammable liquids to the public. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 28-B Sec. 102 Person: means any individual, partnership, corporation, combination of these entities or any other legal entity. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 25 Sec. 2471 Person: means any individual, combination of individuals, partnership, corporation or any other legal entity and any nonfederal governmental entity. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 25 Sec. 2481 Person with a disability: means an individual who has a physical or mental disability that constitutes a substantial barrier to employment but who can benefit in terms of an employment outcome from the provision of vocational rehabilitation services. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 26 Sec. 1411-A Personal property: All property that is not real property. Pick-up contributions: means member contributions to the retirement system which are assumed and paid by the employer through a reduction of members' salaries for services rendered, in accordance with the United States Internal Revenue Code, Section 414(h), in lieu of employee contributions. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001 Pickup truck: means a truck with a registered gross vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds or less. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Plea: In a criminal case, the defendant's statement pleading "guilty" or "not guilty" in answer to the charges, a declaration made in open court. Pneumatic tire: means a tire in which confined air supports the load. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Prior service: means service rendered before the date of establishment of the retirement system as set forth in section 17101. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001 Private law: A private bill enacted into law. Private laws have restricted applicability, often addressing immigration and naturalization issues affecting individuals. Private way: means a way privately owned and maintained over which the owner may restrict use or passage and includes a discontinued way even if a public recreation easement has been reserved. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Probable cause: A reasonable ground for belief that the offender violated a specific law. Probate: Proving a will Probation: means a legal status created by court order in cases involving a juvenile adjudicated as having committed a juvenile crime that permits the juvenile to remain in the juvenile's own home or other placement designated by the Juvenile Court subject to revocation for violation of any condition imposed by the court. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 15 Sec. 3003 Probation: A sentencing alternative to imprisonment in which the court releases convicted defendants under supervision as long as certain conditions are observed. Property: means any money, service, gift or anything of value, including a promise. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 25 Sec. 3701 Prosecute: To charge someone with a crime. A prosecutor tries a criminal case on behalf of the government. public facility: includes only that part or those parts designed for the use of the public. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 27 Sec. 452 Public law: A public bill or joint resolution that has passed both chambers and been enacted into law. Public laws have general applicability nationwide. Public library: means a library freely open to all persons and receives its financial support from a municipality, private association, corporation or group. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 27 Sec. 110 Public roadway: means a right-of-way under the jurisdiction and control of the State or a local political subdivision of the State for the use primarily by motor vehicular traffic. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 2322 Public way: means a way, owned and maintained by the State, a county or a municipality, over which the general public has a right to pass. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Qualifying patient: means a person who possesses a valid certification for the medical use of cannabis pursuant to Title 22, section 2423?B. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 28-B Sec. 102 Quorum: The number of legislators that must be present to do business. Reconstructed motorcycle: means a salvaged or dismantled motorcycle that is repaired or assembled without original manufacturer component parts, excluding fenders. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Reconstructed vehicle: means a vehicle that has been reconstructed to change the original steering, braking system, suspension system or body design, including, but not limited to, a dune buggy, a street rod, a passenger car converted to a pickup truck or a manufactured vehicle body mounted on another manufactured chassis. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 region: means a defined geographic area consisting of local libraries. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 27 Sec. 110 registered mail: when used in connection with any requirement for notice by mail shall mean either registered mail or certified mail. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72 Registered weight: means the gross vehicle weight specified on the vehicle's registration certificate. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Registration: means the registration certificate, plates and renewal devices pertaining to the registration of a vehicle, including temporary registered gross weight increases. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Registration agent: means a nongovernmental entity authorized by the Secretary of State to conduct registration transactions on the bureau's behalf. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Regular interest: means interest at the rate set from time to time by the board in accordance with section 17156. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001 Remand: When an appellate court sends a case back to a lower court for further proceedings. Research center: means any library designated as such by the State Librarian and receiving state aid for the purposes of making its major research collections, under such rules and regulations as are defined by its governing board and head librarian, available to the residents of the State. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 27 Sec. 110 Resident: means a person who has declared or established residency in this State or has been domiciled in this State for a period of at least 30 days, except for persons in compliance with section 109, subsection 1. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Restitution: The court-ordered payment of money by the defendant to the victim for damages caused by the criminal action. Retirement: means termination of membership with a retirement allowance granted under this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001 Retirement benefit: means the same as retirement allowance. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Roller ski: means an object affixed to a foot, separately from the other foot, primarily propelled by human power and driven by the operator on the ground via wheels. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Rotary: means a type of circular intersection with a large diameter and straight entries in which traffic circulates counterclockwise around a center traffic island. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Roundabout: includes a mini-roundabout with a traversable island. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 School construction project: means a project as defined in Title 20-A, section 15901, subsection 4. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 27 Sec. 452 School zone: means the portion of the public highway abutting improved school property or 300 feet on either side of a school entrance, whichever is greater, or as designated under section 2075, subsection 3, paragraph F. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Scooter: means a device upon which a person may ride, consisting of a footboard between 2 end wheels, controlled by an upright steering handle attached to the front wheel and propelled by human power. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Sealed record: means the criminal history record information relating to a specific criminal conviction that a court has ordered to be sealed under section 2264. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 15 Sec. 2261 Secure detention facility: means a facility characterized by physically restrictive construction that is intended to prevent a person who is placed in or admitted to the facility from departing at will. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 15 Sec. 3003 Sell: means to sell, offer, negotiate or advertise to sell, display for sale, exchange or otherwise transfer for value. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Semitrailer: includes , but is not limited to, so-called pole dollies and pole dickeys and wheels commonly used as a support for the ends of logs or other long articles. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Service: means service as an employee for which compensation was paid. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001 Service credit: means credit received for creditable service as defined under subsection 10. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001 Shelter: means the temporary care of a juvenile in physically unrestricting facilities. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 25 Sec. 3701 Solicitation agent: includes , but is not limited to, a person or entity that receives or retains reimbursement for expenses related to soliciting. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 25 Sec. 3701 Solid tires: means tires of solid rubber or other material that do not depend on confined air for the support of the load. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Solid waste: means useless, unwanted or discarded solid material with insufficient liquid content to be free-flowing, including, but not limited to, rubbish, garbage, refuse-derived fuel, scrap materials, junk, refuse, inert fill material and landscape refuse, but not including hazardous waste, biomedical waste, septic tank sludge or agricultural wastes. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Special equipment: means equipment that is drawn by a motor vehicle and that is not designed or used to convey property other than hand tools or parts used in connection with the operation of that equipment, including, but not limited to, air compressors, conveyors, cement mixers, wood splitting or sawing machines, sprayers, compactors, pumps, drills and brush chippers. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Special mobile equipment: includes , but is not limited to, road construction or maintenance machinery, ditch-digging apparatus, stone crushers, air compressors, power shovels, cranes, graders, rollers, trucks used only to plow snow and for other duties pertaining to winter maintenance, including sanding and salting, well drillers and wood-sawing equipment or similar types of equipment. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Stock race car: means a factory-produced motor vehicle that is equipped with roll bars or bracing welded or attached to the frame in a permanent manner, special safety belts and firewalls and that has part of the body removed. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Street rod: means a replica of or a modified antique auto manufactured prior to 1949 that complies with standards adopted by the Chief of the State Police. A very common tort is negligent operation of a motor vehicle that results in property damage and personal injury in an automobile accident. Tow dolly: means a device towed by a motor vehicle and designed and used exclusively to transport another motor vehicle and on which the front or rear wheels of the towed motor vehicle are mounted, while the other wheels of the towed motor vehicle remain in contact with the ground. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Tow-away transporter combination: means a combination of vehicles, with a combined gross weight not exceeding 26,000 pounds, consisting of a truck or truck and tractor and 2 trailers or semitrailers, which do not carry property and constitute inventory property of a manufacturer, distributor or dealer of such trailers or semitrailers. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Traffic control device: means a sign, a signal, a marking or a device placed or erected by a public body or official to regulate, warn or guide traffic. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Traffic infraction: means any violation of any provision of this Title, or of any rules established under this Title, not expressly defined as a crime or as a civil violation and otherwise not punishable by incarceration. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 29-A Sec. 101 Verdict: The decision of a petit jury or a judge.
