  • Community college: means an educational institution providing collegiate and noncollegiate level education primarily to individuals above the twelfth grade age level within commuting distance. See Michigan Laws 389.105
  (1) The first meeting of the board of trustees following the organizational election of a community college district shall be called by the secretary of the intermediate board of education of the county that has the highest valuation within the community college district. The meeting shall be held within 15 days following the statutory date on which the newly elected members take office, at a time and place designated by the secretary. Public notice of the time, date, and place of the meeting shall be given in the manner required by the open meetings act, 1976 PA 267, MCL 15.261 to 15.275.
  (2) The organizational board meeting of a community college district operating under chapter 1, 2, or 3 shall be held at the first meeting of the board of trustees in January following the date of the regular community college election.
  (3) At the first meeting of a first or succeeding board of trustees, the board shall elect a chairperson and a vice chairperson, who shall be members of the board of trustees, and a secretary and a treasurer, who need not be members of the board of trustees. The officers shall be elected for a term of 2 years, subject to change of officers by resolution of the board.
  (4) The board shall conduct its business in compliance with the open meetings act, 1976 PA 267, MCL 15.261 to 15.275.
