(1) The jurisdiction of public safety officers or police officers granted powers and authority of peace or law enforcement officers under section 128 shall include all property owned or leased by the community college in this state and extends to the public right-of-way traversing or contiguous to that property.
  (2) The jurisdiction of public safety officers or police officers under subsection (1) is limited to the protection of persons and property on the property of that community college unless a response is made off campus at the specific request of another law enforcement agency or under a mutual aid agreement with another law enforcement agency.

  • Community college: means an educational institution providing collegiate and noncollegiate level education primarily to individuals above the twelfth grade age level within commuting distance. See Michigan Laws 389.105
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories.
