  • Community college: means an educational institution providing collegiate and noncollegiate level education primarily to individuals above the twelfth grade age level within commuting distance. See Michigan Laws 389.105
  • person: may extend and be applied to bodies politic and corporate, as well as to individuals. See Michigan Laws 8.3l
     When a candidate for election to the board of trustees dies before the election, withdraws, removes from the community college district or proposed district, or becomes disqualified for any reason, and that person is the only candidate for the term of office of member of the board of trustees, then at the first meeting of the board after the election, the board shall elect, by majority vote of the members of the board, a person who would otherwise meet the qualifications of the office to serve until the next succeeding regular community college election for members of the board of trustees or, in the case of a candidate for election to a board of trustees organized under chapter 5, until the next general election.
