With respect to the maritime museum and in addition to its other powers and duties, the department may do any of the following:
  (a) Act to preserve maritime documents, artifacts, vessels, and related items of historical interest.

Terms Used In Michigan Laws 399.405

  • Department: means the department of state. See Michigan Laws 399.302
  • Maritime museum: means the Michigan maritime museum situated in South Haven and operated under authority of this act. See Michigan Laws 399.302
  • Maritime museum trust fund: means the Michigan maritime museum trust fund created by section 108. See Michigan Laws 399.302
  • Personal property: All property that is not real property.
  • Real property: Land, and all immovable fixtures erected on, growing on, or affixed to the land.
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories. See Michigan Laws 8.3o
  (b) Accept on behalf of the state donations of money, real property, historical artifacts, and other personal property related to the themes of the maritime museum. Donations of money made under this subdivision shall be credited to the maritime museum trust fund.
  (c) Purchase historical artifacts related to the themes of the maritime museum within the limits of funds available.
