1. Prior to performing electronic notarial acts, a person shall apply to be a commissioned notary for the state of Missouri.

2. A notary shall register the capability to perform electronic notarial acts with the secretary before notarizing electronically.

  • Commission: both the granting of authority to perform notarial acts and the written evidence of the granting of authority to perform such acts. See Missouri Laws 486.600
  • notary: any person commissioned to perform notarial acts pursuant to this chapter. See Missouri Laws 486.600
  • person: may extend and be applied to bodies politic and corporate, and to partnerships and other unincorporated associations. See Missouri Laws 1.020
  • Secretary: the secretary of state for the state of Missouri. See Missouri Laws 486.600
  • State: when applied to any of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories, and the words "United States" includes such district and territories. See Missouri Laws 1.020

3. Upon recommissioning, a notary shall again register with the secretary before notarizing electronically.

4. A person may apply or reapply for a notary commission and register or reregister to perform electronic notarial acts at the same time.
