Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 40:37-198

  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. The persons so appointed when duly qualified, constituting the board of park commissioners, and their successors, shall be a body politic, with power to sue and be sued, use a common seal and make by-laws. The members of the commission shall serve without compensation but their necessary expenses shall be allowed and paid. No person employed by the commission shall be a member thereof.

Before entering upon the duties of his office, each commissioner shall take and subscribe an oath that he will faithfully and impartially perform the duties of his office. Their oaths shall be filed in the office of the county clerk.
