Rhode Island General Laws 31-32-14. Duration of suspension for unsatisfied judgment
The license, registration, and nonresident’s operating privilege shall remain so suspended and shall not be renewed, nor shall the license or registration be thereafter issued in the name of the person, including any person not previously licensed, unless and until the judgment is stayed, satisfied in full, or to the extent provided in this chapter, and until the person gives proof of financial responsibility subject to the exemptions stated in §§ 31-32-12, 31-32-13, and 31-32-17.

Terms Used In Rhode Island General Laws 31-32-14
- Judgment: means any judgment which shall have become final by expiration without appeal of the time within which an appeal might have been perfected, or by final affirmation on appeal, rendered by a court of competent jurisdiction of any state or of the United States, upon a cause of action arising out of the ownership, maintenance, or use of any vehicle of a type subject to registration under the laws of this state, for damages, including damages for care and loss of services, because of bodily injury to or death of any person, or for damages because of injury to or destruction of property, including the loss of use of it, or upon a cause of action on an agreement of settlement for the damages. - person: may be construed to extend to and include co-partnerships and bodies corporate and politic. See Rhode Island General Laws 43-3-6
- proof: is synonymous with the term "proof of financial responsibility for the future". See Rhode Island General Laws 31-32-2
