(a)  If any provision of chapters 8 — 10 of this title, any rule, or regulation made thereunder, or the application thereof to any person or circumstance is held invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction the remainder of those chapters, rules, or regulations and the application of those provisions to other persons or circumstances shall not be affected thereby.

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • person: may be construed to extend to and include co-partnerships and bodies corporate and politic. See Rhode Island General Laws 43-3-6
  • Remainder: An interest in property that takes effect in the future at a specified time or after the occurrence of some event, such as the death of a life tenant.

(b)  The invalidity of any section or sections or parts of any section or sections of those chapters shall not affect the validity of the remainder of those chapters.
