Nothing in this chapter applies to or affects:

(1) any policy of workers’ compensation insurance or any policy of liability insurance with or without supplementary coverage therein;

  • Accident and health insurance: means insurance of human beings against death or personal injury by accident, and each insurance of human beings against sickness, ailment, and any type of physical disability resulting from accident or disease, and prepaid dental service, but not including coverages required by the Workers' Compensation Law of this State. See South Carolina Code 38-1-20
  • Annuity: means each contract or agreement to make periodic payments, whether in fixed or variable dollar amounts, or both, at specified intervals. See South Carolina Code 38-1-20
  • Annuity: A periodic (usually annual) payment of a fixed sum of money for either the life of the recipient or for a fixed number of years. A series of payments under a contract from an insurance company, a trust company, or an individual. Annuity payments are made at regular intervals over a period of more than one full year.
  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • insurance: includes annuities. See South Carolina Code 38-1-20
  • Life insurance: means a contract of insurance upon the lives of human beings. See South Carolina Code 38-1-20
  • Policy: means a contract of insurance. See South Carolina Code 38-1-20

(2) any policy or contract of reinsurance;

(3) any blanket or group policy of insurance, except as specifically required in this chapter; or

(4) life insurance, endowment, or annuity contracts or contracts supplemental thereto which contain only such provisions relating to accident and health insurance as (a) provide additional benefits in case of death or dismemberment or loss of sight by accident or (b) operate to safeguard the contracts against lapse or to give a special surrender value or special benefit or an annuity in the event that the insured or annuitant becomes totally and permanently disabled, as defined by the contract or supplemental contract.
