(1) A county that operates a patient care management system shall develop guidelines for referring to appropriate substance abuse prevention services or substance abuse treatment and rehabilitation services an individual whose need for medical care, in whole or in part, is caused by substance abuse.
(2) As used in this section, “substance abuse”, “substance abuse prevention services”, and “substance abuse treatment and rehabilitation services” mean those terms as defined in section 6107 of the public health code, Act No. 368 of the Public Acts of 1978, being section 333.6107 of the Michigan Compiled Laws.

- Medical care: as used in this act means medical care rendered under the supervision of a licensed physician in an organized out-patient department of a hospital licensed by the department of community health under article 17 of the public health code, 1978 PA 368, MCL 333.
