(a) Three members of the board of trustees are appointed with the advice and consent of the senate, one each by:
(1) the governor;
(2) the chief justice of the Supreme Court of Texas; and
(3) the speaker of the house of representatives.
(b) Appointed trustees hold office for staggered terms of six years, with the term of one trustee expiring on August 31 of each even-numbered year.
Terms Used In Texas Government Code 815.002
- Advice and consent: Under the Constitution, presidential nominations for executive and judicial posts take effect only when confirmed by the Senate, and international treaties become effective only when the Senate approves them by a two-thirds vote.
- Justice: when applied to a magistrate, means justice of the peace. See Texas Government Code 312.011
- Oath: A promise to tell the truth.
- Oath: includes affirmation. See Texas Government Code 311.005
- Person: includes corporation, organization, government or governmental subdivision or agency, business trust, estate, trust, partnership, association, and any other legal entity. See Texas Government Code 311.005
- Trustee: A person or institution holding and administering property in trust.
- Year: means 12 consecutive months. See Texas Government Code 311.005
(c) Before the 11th day after the day on which an appointment is made, the person appointed to the board shall subscribe to the constitutional oath and the oath of office provided by § 815.004.
(d) Appointments to the board shall be made without regard to the race, color, disability, sex, religion, age, or national origin of the appointees.
