A person who knowingly files a false, fictitious, or forged paper, document, contract, affidavit, application, assignment, or other instrument in writing relating to the purchase, sale, or resale of land under this chapter is guilty of a felony and on conviction shall be punished by imprisonment in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for not less than two nor more than 10 years or by a fine of not less than $1,000 nor more than $10,000, or by both.
