Terms Used In Utah Code > Title 77 > Chapter 28a

  • Academic education: means an educational program that is offered by a degree-granting institution. See Utah Code 53B-1-101.5 v2
  • Advice and consent: Under the Constitution, presidential nominations for executive and judicial posts take effect only when confirmed by the Senate, and international treaties become effective only when the Senate approves them by a two-thirds vote.
  • Board: means the Utah Board of Higher Education described in Section 53B-1-402. See Utah Code 53B-1-401
  • Career and technical education: means organized educational programs offering sequences of courses or skill sets directly related to preparing individuals for paid or unpaid employment in current or emerging occupations that generally do not require a baccalaureate or advanced degree. See Utah Code 53B-1-101.5
  • Commissioner: means the commissioner of higher education appointed in accordance with Section 53B-1-105. See Utah Code 53B-1-101.5
  • degree-granting institution: means an institution of higher education described in Subsection 53B-1-102(1)(a). See Utah Code 53B-1-101.5 v2
  • Executive session: A portion of the Senate's daily session in which it considers executive business.
  • institution: means an institution of higher education described in Section 53B-1-102. See Utah Code 53B-1-401
  • Institution board of trustees: means :Utah Code 53B-1-101.5 v2
  • Nominating committee: means the committee described in Section 53B-1-406. See Utah Code 53B-1-401
  • Oath: includes "affirmation. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
  • Process: means a writ or summons issued in the course of a judicial proceeding. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
  • Quorum: The number of legislators that must be present to do business.
  • Remainder: An interest in property that takes effect in the future at a specified time or after the occurrence of some event, such as the death of a life tenant.
  • State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes a state, district, or territory of the United States. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
  • Technical college: means , except as provided in Section 53B-26-102, a member college of the Utah System of Technical Colleges listed in Section 53B-2a-105. See Utah Code 53B-1-101.5
