Terms Used In Wisconsin Statutes 39.395

  • Appropriation: The provision of funds, through an annual appropriations act or a permanent law, for federal agencies to make payments out of the Treasury for specified purposes. The formal federal spending process consists of two sequential steps: authorization
  • Following: when used by way of reference to any statute section, means the section next following that in which the reference is made. See Wisconsin Statutes 990.01
  • State: when applied to states of the United States, includes the District of Columbia, the commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the several territories organized by Congress. See Wisconsin Statutes 990.01
   (1)    In this section, “institution of higher education” means an institution or college campus within the University of Wisconsin System, a technical college within the technical college system, or a private, nonprofit institution of higher education located in this state.
   (2)   Subject to sub. (3), the board shall establish a program that provides all of the following:
39.395(2)(a)(a) Fellowships for students who enroll in doctor of nursing practice, doctor of philosophy in nursing, or master of science in nursing degree programs in an institution of higher education.
39.395(2)(b)(b) Postdoctoral fellowships to recruit faculty for nursing programs in an institution of higher education.
39.395(2)(c)(c) Educational loan repayment assistance to recruit and retain faculty for nursing programs in an institution of higher education.
   (3)   The program established under sub. (2) shall require individuals who receive fellowships under sub. (2) (a) or (b) or assistance under sub. (2) (c) to make a commitment to teach for at least 3 consecutive years in a nursing program at an institution of higher education.
   (4)   Costs associated with the program established under sub. (2) shall be funded from the appropriation under s. 20.235 (1) (co).
