  • Appellate: About appeals; an appellate court has the power to review the judgement of another lower court or tribunal.
  • Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
814.3 Appeals in cases involving more than one defendant.
When defendants are tried jointly, they may seek discretionary review or may appeal
separately or may join. The appellate court may, in the interest of justice, consolidate appeals or applications for discretionary review.
