  • Lease: A contract transferring the use of property or occupancy of land, space, structures, or equipment in consideration of a payment (e.g., rent). Source: OCC

A lease may be made orally or in writing.  A lease of an immovable is not effective against third persons until filed for recordation in the manner prescribed by legislation.
