Terms Used In North Carolina General Statutes 143-407.1

  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories, so called; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the said district and territories and all dependencies. (a) The Governor of North Carolina may appoint a distinguished living composer as “Composer-Laureate for the State of North Carolina.”

(b) Any person appointed “Composer-Laureate for the State of North Carolina” shall be appointed for life but may voluntarily resign at any time. (1991, c. 56, ss. 1, 2.)
