§ 491.001	Definitions

Terms Used In Texas Government Code Chapter 491 - Texas Board of Criminal Justice, Texas Department of Criminal Justice: General Provisions

Justice: when applied to a magistrate, means justice of the peace. See Texas Government Code 312.011
Probation: A sentencing alternative to imprisonment in which the court releases convicted defendants under supervision as long as certain conditions are observed.
Statute: A law passed by a legislature.
