78B-7-508. Penalties.

(1)	A violation of a protective order issued under this part is a class A misdemeanor.

Under the Utah Code, punishments for crimes depend on the classification. In the case of this section:

Class	Prison	Fine
class A misdemeanor	up to 364 days	up to $2,500

Protective order: means :

(a)	a sexual violence protective order; or

(b)	an ex parte sexual violence protective order. See Utah Code 78B-7-502
(2)	A petitioner may be subject to criminal prosecution under 5, for knowingly falsifying any statement or information provided for the purpose of obtaining a protective order.
