Terms Used In Vermont Statutes Title 23 Sec. 675

  • Commissioner: shall mean in this title only the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles. See
  • Justice: when applied to a person, other than a Justice of the Supreme Court, shall mean a justice of the peace for the county for which he or she is elected or appointed. See
  • Motor vehicle: includes all vehicles propelled or drawn by power other than muscular power, except farm tractors, vehicles running only upon stationary rails or tracks, motorized highway building equipment, road making appliances, snowmobiles, tracked vehicles, motor-assisted bicycles, electric bicycles, or electric personal assistive mobility devices. See
  • Operator: shall include all persons 18 years of age or over properly licensed to operate motor vehicles. See
  • Person: includes any natural person, corporation, association, co-partnership, company, firm, or other aggregation of individuals. See
  • State: when applied to the different parts of the United States may apply to the District of Columbia and any territory and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. See
  • Statute: A law passed by a legislature.

§ 675. Fee prior to termination or reinstatement of suspension or revocation of license

[Subsection (a) effective until January 1, 2024; see also subsection (a) effective January 1, 2024 set out below.]

(a) Before a suspension or revocation issued by the Commissioner of a person‘s operator‘s license or privilege of operating a motor vehicle may be terminated or before a person’s operator’s license or privilege of operating a motor vehicle may be reinstated, there shall be paid to the Commissioner a fee of $80.00 in addition to any other fee required by statute. This section shall not apply to suspensions issued under the provisions of chapter 11 of this title nor suspensions issued for physical disabilities or failing to pass reexamination. The Commissioner shall not reinstate the license of a driver whose license was suspended pursuant to section 1205 of this title until the Commissioner receives certification from the court that the costs due the State have been paid.

(b) Any suspension issued as a result of improper information received from the criminal justice system shall be canceled and removed from the record without payment of any fee upon receipt of proper information that the suspension should not have been requested.
