(a) Any reference in this chapter to an investigation by the board shall be deemed to refer to a joint investigation conducted by employees of the Department of Justice and the Health Quality Investigation Unit under the vertical enforcement and prosecution model, as specified in § 12529.6 of the Government Code.

(b) This section shall become operative on July 1, 2014.
