  • Abbreviated contract of admission: means a contract which meets the provisions of this chapter, except as otherwise provided, for a resident who is receiving respite care services, as defined in Section 1418. See California Government Code 55090
  • Act: means the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (16 U. See California Government Code 55603.5
  • action taken: means a collective decision made by the members of a state body, a collective commitment or promise by the members of the state body to make a positive or negative decision or an actual vote by the members of a state body when sitting as a body or entity upon a motion, proposal, resolution, order or similar action.   • action taken: means a collective decision made by a majority of the members of a legislative body, a collective commitment or promise by a majority of the members of a legislative body to make a positive or a negative decision, or an actual vote by a majority of the members of a legislative body when sitting as a body or entity, upon a motion, proposal, report, resolution, order, or recommendation. See California Education Code 89305.4
  • Administering agency: means the agency designated by the committee pursuant to Section 25262. See California Government Code 11346.3
  • administrative costs: means the amounts expended by the Legislature, the Legislative Counsel Bureau, the Governor's Office, the Department of Technology, the Office of Planning and Research, the Department of Justice, the State Controller's Office, the State Treasurer's Office, the State Personnel Board, the Department of Finance, the Department of Financial Information System for California, the Office of Administrative Law, the Department of Human Resources, the Secretary of California Health and Human Services, the California State Auditor's Office, and the California State Library, and a proration of any other cost to or expense of the state for services or facilities provided for the Legislature and the above agencies, for supervision or administration of the state government or for services to other state agencies. See California Government Code 11270
  • Advisory committee: means the Advisory Committee on Salmon and Steelhead Trout, established pursuant to Resolution Chapter 141 of the Statutes of 1983, except that there shall be two additional members appointed by the Joint Committee on Fisheries and Aquaculture after consultation with the Director of Fish and Game and the Fish and Game Commission. See California Government Code 55632
  • Advisory team: means the team convened by the committee pursuant to Section 25263. See California Government Code 11346.3
  • Affected county: means a county in which any land of the district or agency is situated. See California Education Code 88244
  • Affiliate: means a person who, directly or indirectly through one or more intermediaries, controls, is controlled by, or is under common control with, a specified person. See California Government Code 55028
  • Agency: means any city, county, district, commission, the state, or any department, agency, or political subdivision thereof, that has jurisdiction under a state or local law, ordinance, or regulation to supervise, oversee, or approve a site investigation and a remedial action at a hazardous materials release site. See California Government Code 11346.3
  • agency: means any district or agency of the type designated by and formed pursuant to the provisions of any principal act that incorporates this part. See California Education Code 88244
  • Applicant: means any person who has applied for, or is about to apply for, a state gambling license, a key employee license, a registration, a finding of suitability, a work permit, a manufacturer's or distributor's license, or an approval of any act or transaction for which the approval or authorization of the commission or department is required or permitted under this chapter. See California Government Code 55028
  • Association: includes any lodge, order, beneficial association, fraternal or beneficial society or association, historical, military, or veterans organization, labor union, foundation, or federation, or any other society, organization, or association, or degree, branch, subordinate lodge, or auxiliary thereof.   • At-large method of election: means any of the following methods of electing members to the governing body of a political subdivision:

  • Authority: means the High-Speed Rail Authority created pursuant to Section 185020 of the Public Utilities Code, or its successor. See California Welfare and Institutions Code 16525.29

  • Board: means the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles. See California Education Code 90048

  • Building: as used in this chapter , means all or part of any "public and commercial building" as defined in Section 2642 of Title 15 of the United States Code, as that section reads on January 1, 1989, except that "building" shall not mean residential dwellings.   • Chief: means the head of the entity within the department that is responsible for fulfilling the obligations imposed upon the department by this chapter. See California Government Code 55028
  • coin dealer: means any person, firm, partnership, or corporation whose principal business is the buying, selling, and trading of coins, monetized bullion, or commercial grade ingots of gold, or silver, or other precious metals. See California Government Code 11111
  • Commercial grade ingots: means 0. See California Government Code 11113
  • commercial user: means any person who deals in or engages in the business of selling bunk beds or who otherwise by one's occupation holds oneself out as having knowledge or skill peculiar to bunk beds, or any person who sells bunk beds. See California Government Code 11340.9
  • Commission: means the Citizens Redistricting Commission in the County of Los Angeles established pursuant to Section 21532. See California Education Code 90048
  • Commission: means the Independent Redistricting Commission established by subdivision (b). See California Education Code 90054
  • Commission: means the California Gambling Control Commission. See California Government Code 55028
  • Commission: means the Seismic Safety Commission. See California Government Code 31725.65
  • Committee: means the Site Designation Committee created by Section 25261. See California Government Code 11346.3
  • Committee: means the Passenger Rail Finance Committee created pursuant to Section 2701. See California Welfare and Institutions Code 16522.1
  • Committee: means the High-Speed Passenger Train Finance Committee created pursuant to Section 2704. See California Welfare and Institutions Code 16525.29
  • Comprehensive case management: means locating, coordinating, and monitoring services for the eligible patient population and includes all of the following:

  • Consumer: means an individual, firm, partnership, association or corporation who buys for his or her own use, or for the use of another, but not for resale. See California Government Code 11020
  • Container: as used in this chapter , includes a "milk case. See California Education Code 59203
  • contestant: means any person initiating an election contest. See California Education Code 89571
  • Contract of admission: includes all documents which a resident or his or her representative must sign at the time of, or as a condition of, admission to a long-term health care facility, as defined in Section 1326. See California Government Code 55090
  • Controlled gambling: means to deal, operate, carry on, conduct, maintain, or expose for play any controlled game. See California Government Code 55028
  • Controlled game: means any controlled game, as defined by subdivision (e) of Section 337j of the Penal Code. See California Government Code 55028
  • Corridor: means a portion of the high-speed train system as described in Section 2704. See California Welfare and Institutions Code 16525.29
  • Council: means the Pacific Fishery Management Council established pursuant to the act, or its successor agency. See California Government Code 55603.5
  • county: means a county in which a county firewarden has been appointed. See California Government Code 55601
  • County elections official: means the San Diego County Registrar of Voters. See California Education Code 90054
  • Defect: means any flaw in the hardware or documentation of a remote accessible vote by mail system that could result in a state of unfitness for use or nonconformance to the manufacturer's specifications or applicable law. See California Education Code 89913
  • Defendant: means that person whose election or nomination is contested or those persons receiving an equal and highest number of votes, other than the contestant, where, in other than primary elections, the body canvassing the returns declares that no one person has received the highest number of votes for the contested office. See California Education Code 89571
  • Department: means the State Department of Health Services or its designee. See California Government Code 55090
  • department: means the State Department of Public Health. See California Education Code 56361.2
  • Department: means the Department of Transportation. See California Welfare and Institutions Code 16522.1
  • Department: means the Department of Justice. See California Government Code 55028
  • Director: means any director of a corporation or any person performing similar functions with respect to any organization. See California Government Code 55028
  • Director: means a member of the governing body. See California Education Code 88244
  • disabled: includes mental or physical illness and mental or physical injury including any illness or injury resulting from pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical condition. See California Education Code 89529.15
  • Dismissal: means dismissal for cause. See California Education Code 89530
  • District-based elections: means a method of electing members to the governing body of a political subdivision in which the candidate must reside within an election district that is a divisible part of the political subdivision and is elected only by voters residing within that election district. See California Education Code 89517
  • election management system: is a system that is used by a county in the state to track voter registration or voter preferences, including, for example, a voter's vote-by-mail status. See California Education Code 90022
  • Elective office: means any office that may, under the principal act of the district or agency, be filled by way of an election. See California Education Code 88244
  • Elective officer: means "elective officer" as defined by the principal act of each district or agency or if not defined, any officer of a district or agency holding an office that can be filled by election. See California Education Code 88244
  • Electrolysis: as used in this chapter includes electrolysis or thermolysis. See California Education Code 92112
  • eligible bank: means a state or national bank located in this state, selected by the Treasurer for the safekeeping of money belonging to or in the custody of the state, that has received an overall rating of not less than "satisfactory" in its most recent evaluation by the appropriate federal financial supervisory agency of the bank's record of meeting the credit needs of the state's communities, including low- and moderate-income neighborhoods, pursuant to Section 2906 of Title 12 of the United States Code.   • Employee: as used in this chapter , means every person who is required or directed by any employer, to engage in any employment, and who performs that employment other than on a casual or incidental basis in any building subject to this chapter, or any person contracting with an owner who is required or directed to perform services, other than on a casual or incidental basis, in any building subject to this chapter. See California Government Code 11161
  • Employee: means any of the following:

  • Failure: means a discrepancy between the external results of the operation of any software or firmware in a remote accessible vote by mail system and the manufacturer's product requirements for that software or firmware or applicable law. See California Education Code 89913
  • Fault: means a step, process, or data definition in any software or firmware in a ballot marking system that is incorrect under the manufacturer's program specification or applicable law. See California Education Code 89913
  • Financial services: as used in this chapter means financial services or products that are considered to be financial in nature as described in Section 1843(k) of Title 12 of the United States Code. See California Education Code 59210
  • Finding of suitability: means a finding that a person meets the qualification criteria described in subdivisions (a) and (b) of Section 19857, and that the person would not be disqualified from holding a state gambling license on any of the grounds specified in Section 19859.   • Fish offal: means the heads, viscera, and other parts of fish taken off in preparing for canning, preserving, packing, and preparing for consumption in a fresh state. See California Government Code 11000
  • franchise: means a contract or agreement, either expressed or implied, whether oral or written, between two or more persons by which:

  • frog-jumping contest: means a contest generally and popularly known as a frog-jumping contest which is open to the public and is advertised or announced in a newspaper. See California Government Code 55000
  • Full pay: means the gross base pay earnable by the employee and subject to retirement contribution if he or she had not vacated his or her position. See California Education Code 89529.02
  • Full pay: means the gross base salary earnable by the employee and subject to retirement contribution on the date of the commencement of his or her disability. See California Education Code 89529.15
  • Fund: means the Passenger Rail Bond Fund created pursuant to Section 2701. See California Welfare and Institutions Code 16522.1
  • Fund: means the High-Speed Passenger Train Bond Fund created pursuant to Section 2704. See California Welfare and Institutions Code 16525.29
  • Gambling: means to deal, operate, carry on, conduct, maintain, or expose for play any controlled game. See California Government Code 55028
  • Gambling enterprise: means a natural person or an entity, whether individual, corporate, or otherwise, that conducts a gambling operation and that by virtue thereof is required to hold a state gambling license under this chapter. See California Government Code 55028
  • Gambling enterprise employee: means any natural person employed in the operation of a gambling enterprise, including, without limitation, dealers, floor personnel, security employees, countroom personnel, cage personnel, collection personnel, surveillance personnel, data-processing personnel, appropriate maintenance personnel, waiters and waitresses, and secretaries, or any other natural person whose employment duties require or authorize access to restricted gambling establishment areas. See California Government Code 55028
  • gambling game: means any controlled game. See California Government Code 55028
  • Gambling operation: means exposing for play one or more controlled games that are dealt, operated, carried on, conducted, or maintained for commercial gain. See California Government Code 55028
  • General district election: means an election held pursuant to the provisions of this part. See California Education Code 88244
  • Governing body: means the board of directors of a district or agency or the board or body which governs the activities of the district or agency. See California Education Code 88244
  • Gross revenue: means the total of all compensation received for conducting any controlled game, and includes interest received in payment for credit extended by an owner licensee to a patron for purposes of gambling, except as provided by regulation. See California Government Code 55028
  • health care facility: means a facility, other than a facility licensed under Division 2 (commencing with Section 1200) of the Health and Safety Code, that is owned or operated by a health care service plan licensed pursuant to Chapter 2. See California Education Code 88221
  • High-speed train: means a passenger train capable of sustained revenue operating speeds of at least 200 miles per hour where conditions permit those speeds. See California Welfare and Institutions Code 16525.29
  • High-speed train system: means a system with high-speed trains and includes, but is not limited to, the following components: right-of-way, track, power system, rolling stock, stations, and associated facilities. See California Welfare and Institutions Code 16525.29
  • Hours of operation: means the period during which a gambling establishment is open to conduct the play of controlled games within a 24-hour period. See California Government Code 55028
  • House: means the gambling enterprise, and any owner, shareholder, partner, key employee, or landlord thereof. See California Government Code 55028
  • Immediate family member: means a spouse, child, in-law, parent, or sibling. See California Education Code 90048
  • In-house counsel: means an attorney authorized to practice law in the State of California who is a state employee, including an excluded or exempt employee, other than an employee of the Office of the Attorney General. See California Government Code 11040
  • Indenture: means an agreement entered into by the board pursuant to which revenue bonds are issued, regardless of whether the agreement is expressed in the form of a resolution of the board or by other instrument. See California Education Code 90011
  • Industrial disability leave: means temporary disability as defined in Divisions 4 (commencing with Section 3200) and 4. See California Education Code 89529.02
  • Industrial hygiene: means the science and art devoted to the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of environmental factors or stresses which may cause sickness, impaired health and well-being, or significant discomfort and inefficiency among workers or among the citizens of a community. See California Government Code 11146.1
  • Industrial hygiene certification organization: means a professional organization of certified industrial hygienists that has been established to improve the practice and educational standards of the profession of industrial hygiene through a certification process, by certifying industrial hygienists through an examination administered by the certification organization. See California Government Code 11146.1
  • Initial license: means the license first issued to a person authorizing that person to commence the activities authorized by that license. See California Government Code 55028
  • Insignia: includes badge, motto, button, decoration, charm, emblem, or rosette. See California Government Code 16527
  • Institutional investor: means any retirement fund administered by a public agency for the exclusive benefit of federal, state, or local public employees, any investment company registered under the Investment Company Act of 1940 (15 U. See California Government Code 55028
  • Joint committee: means the Joint Committee on Fisheries and Aquaculture created pursuant to Resolution Chapter 88 of the Statutes of 1981. See California Government Code 55603.5
  • junk: means any and all secondhand and used machinery and all ferrous and nonferrous scrap metals and alloys, including any and all secondhand and used furniture, pallets, or other personal property, other than livestock, or parts or portions thereof. See California Government Code 11045
  • junk dealer: includes any person engaged in the business of buying, selling and dealing in junk, any person purchasing, gathering, collecting, soliciting or traveling about from place to place procuring junk, and any person operating, carrying on, conducting or maintaining a junk yard or place where junk is gathered together and stored or kept for shipment, sale or transfer. See California Government Code 11080
  • junk yard: includes any yard, plot, space, inclosure, building or any other place where junk is collected, stored, gathered together and kept. See California Government Code 11081
  • Key employee: means any natural person employed in the operation of a gambling enterprise in a supervisory capacity or empowered to make discretionary decisions that regulate gambling operations, including, without limitation, pit bosses, shift bosses, credit executives, cashier operations supervisors, gambling operation managers and assistant managers, managers or supervisors of security employees, or any other natural person designated as a key employee by the department for reasons consistent with the policies of this chapter.   • Key employee license: means a state license authorizing the holder to be employed as a key employee. See California Government Code 55028
  • Landowner voting district: means a district whose principal act requires an elector to be an owner of land located within the district. See California Education Code 88244
  • Layoff: means separation from a position for lack of funds or lack of work. See California Education Code 89530
  • legislative body: means the board of supervisors in the case of a county or city and county and the city council or board of trustees in the case of a city. See California Government Code 55701
  • Legislative body: means any or all of the following:

    California Education Code 89305.1

  • Lender: as used in this chapter means a bank, savings and loan association, savings bank, credit union, industrial bank, or other lender licensed to make loans in California or a subsidiary or an affiliate of one of those entities. See California Education Code 59210
  • Lender: means any person other than an automobile dealer or automobile distributor who is engaged in the business of financing the purchase or sale of motor vehicles or of buying conditional sales contracts, chattel mortgages or leases on motor vehicles sold at retail within this state.   • Licensed gambling establishment: means the gambling premises encompassed by a state gambling license. See California Government Code 55028
  • licensed health care facility: means a facility licensed pursuant to Article 1 (commencing with Section 1250) of Chapter 2 of Division 2 of the Health and Safety Code or a facility, as defined in Section 1250 of the Health and Safety Code, operated by a health care service plan licensed pursuant to Chapter 2. See California Education Code 88221
  • licensed home health agency: means a private or public organization licensed by the State Department of Public Health pursuant to Chapter 8 (commencing with Section 1725) of Division 2 of the Health and Safety Code, as further defined in Section 1727 of the Health and Safety Code. See California Education Code 88221
  • licensed premises: except as otherwise defined in Section 19812, means one or more rooms where any controlled gambling or activity directly related thereto occurs. See California Government Code 55028
  • Limited partnership: means a partnership formed by two or more persons having as members one or more general partners and one or more limited partners. See California Government Code 55028
  • local agency: means a neighboring city, county, fire protection district, joint powers authority that provides fire protection services, police protection district, federal government or any federal department or agency. See California Government Code 55631
  • local agency: means a county, city and county, and city, both chartered and general law. See California Government Code 55700
  • local agency: means municipal corporation or sanitary district. See California Government Code 55000
  • local agency: means county, city, and sanitary district. See California Government Code 55300
  • local agency: means a city, chartered city, or a fire protection district. See California Government Code 55600
  • Manufacturer: means (i) . See California Education Code 60041
  • Medically fragile: means having an acute or chronic health problem that requires therapeutic intervention and skilled nursing care during all or part of the day. See California Government Code 11011.18
  • meeting: includes any congregation of a majority of the members of a state body at the same time and place to hear, discuss, or deliberate upon any item that is within the subject matter jurisdiction of the state body to which it pertains. See California Government Code 11122.5
  • Meeting: includes any congregation of a majority of the membership of a legislative body at the same time and place to hear, discuss, or deliberate upon any item that is within the subject matter jurisdiction of the legislative body to which it pertains. See California Education Code 89305.1
  • Milk case: means a rigid, reusable container for packing and transporting or delivering cartons, bottles, jugs, or any other form of packaged milk or milk products. See California Education Code 59203
  • mobile unit: means a special purpose commercial coach as defined in Section 18012. See California Government Code 11017.5
  • Native amphibians: as used in this article means salamanders, toads, or any other member of the class amphibia native to California. See California Government Code 55021
  • nonprofit organization: means an organization that has been qualified to conduct business in California for at least three years prior to conducting controlled games and is exempt from taxation pursuant to Section 23701a, 23701b, 23701d, 23701e, 23701f, 23701g, 23701k, 23701l, or 23701w of the Revenue and Taxation Code. See California Government Code 55308
  • Notice: includes all papers and orders required to be served in any proceedings before any court, board, or officer, or when required by law to be served independently of such proceeding. See California Government Code 26660
  • office: means the Office of Emergency Services. See California Government Code 31725.65
  • Outside counsel: means an attorney authorized to practice law in the State of California who is not a state employee, including an excluded or exempt employee. See California Government Code 11040
  • Owner: as used in this chapter , means an owner, lessee, sublessee, or agent of the owner of a building or part of a building, including, but not limited to, the state or another public entity. See California Government Code 11180
  • Owner licensee: means an owner of a gambling enterprise who holds a state gambling license. See California Government Code 55028
  • Packer: means any person canning fish or preserving fish by the common methods of drying, salting, pickling, smoking, cold packing, or vacuum packing. See California Government Code 11000
  • Parent facility: means a health facility licensed pursuant to Chapter 2 (commencing with Section 1250) of Division 2, or a clinic licensed pursuant to Chapter 1 (commencing with Section 1200) of Division 2. See California Government Code 11017.5
  • Parkfield characteristic earthquake: means an earthquake that has, among other qualities, a magnitude between 5. See California Government Code 31720.7
  • Parkfield prototype earthquake prediction system: means a dense cluster of instruments along the Parkfield section of the San Andreas fault which monitors earthquake activity, local distortion of the Earth's crust, strain levels, creep adjustments along the fault, and other phenomena which may be useful in making a short-term earthquake prediction. See California Government Code 31720.7
  • Pediatric day health and respite care facility: means a facility that provides an organized program of therapeutic social and day health activities and services and limited 24-hour inpatient respite care to medically fragile children 21 years of age or younger, including terminally ill and technology-dependent patients, except as provided in paragraph (2) and Section 1763.   • Permanent: means that the employee has a right to continued employment unless dismissed or laid off. See California Education Code 89530
  • person: includes firm, association, partnership, individual, limited liability company, and corporation. See California Education Code 56361
  • Person: means an individual, firm, partnership, association, limited liability company, or corporation engaged in the business of selling watches. See California Government Code 11020
  • Person: as used in this article includes firm and corporation. See California Government Code 11032

  • Political subdivision: means a geographic area of representation created for the provision of government services, including, but not limited to, a city, a school district, a community college district, or other district organized pursuant to state law. See California Education Code 89525
  • Preparedness: means long-term preearthquake hazard mitigation, reconstruction, and recovery planning and preparation for emergency response. See California Government Code 31725.65
  • Principal act: means the law providing for the creation of a particular district or agency or type of district or agency. See California Education Code 88244
  • Process: includes all writs, warrants, summons, and orders of courts of justice, or judicial officers. See California Government Code 26660
  • Project: means any one or more dormitories or other housing facilities, boarding facilities, student union or activity facilities, vehicle parking facilities, alternative transportation programs, or any other auxiliary or supplementary facilities for individual or group accommodation, owned or operated or authorized to be acquired, constructed, furnished, equipped, and operated by the board for use by students, faculty members, or other employees of any one or more campuses of the California State University, or a combination of those facilities, which may include facilities already completed and facilities authorized for future completion, or any other facilities designated by the board as a project in providing for the issuance of revenue bonds or notes.   • Publicly traded racing association: means a corporation licensed to conduct horse racing and simulcast wagering pursuant to Chapter 4 (commencing with Section 19400) whose stock is publicly traded. See California Government Code 55028
  • purchase: include exchange, barter, gift, and offer of contract to sell or buy. See California Education Code 60041
  • Qualified racing association: means a corporation licensed to conduct horse racing and simulcast wagering pursuant to Chapter 4 (commencing with Section 19400) that is a wholly owned subsidiary of a corporation whose stock is publicly traded. See California Government Code 55028
  • qualified trust company: means the trust department of any State or National bank in this State or a trust company authorized to act as such in this State. See California Government Code 16550
  • Racially polarized voting: means voting in which there is a difference, as defined in case law regarding enforcement of the federal Voting Rights Act of 1965 (52 U. See California Education Code 89517
  • Reduction plant: means any plant used in the reduction or conversion of fish into fish flour, fishmeal, fish scrap, fertilizer, fish oil, or other fishery products or byproducts. See California Government Code 11000
  • Remedial action: includes , but is not limited to, the cleanup or removal of released hazardous materials from the environment, monitoring, testing and analysis of the site, site operation and maintenance, and the placing of conditions, limitations, or restrictions on the uses of the site after remedial action has been completed. See California Government Code 11346.3
  • Resident voting district: means any district other than a landowner voting district. See California Education Code 88244
  • Respite care: means day and 24-hour relief for the parent or guardian and care for the patient. See California Government Code 11011.18
  • Responsible party: means any person, except for an independent contractor, who agrees to carry out a site investigation and remedial action at a hazardous materials release site for one of the following reasons:

  • Retailer: means any person who is engaged or who intends to engage in the business of selling motor vehicles at retail in this state. See California Education Code 60041
  • revenue: means revenue derived from the tax collected pursuant to the Bradley-Burns Uniform Local Sales and Use Tax Law provided for in Part 1. See California Government Code 55702
  • revenue bonds: means the written evidence of any obligation, other than revenue bond anticipation notes, issued by the board, payment of which is secured by a pledge of revenues or any part of revenues, as provided in this article, in order to obtain funds with which to carry out the purposes of this article, irrespective of the form of the obligations. See California Education Code 90011
  • scrap metals and alloys: includes , but is not limited to, materials and equipment commonly used in construction, agricultural operations and electrical power generation, railroad equipment, oil well rigs, nonferrous materials, stainless steel, and nickel which are offered for sale to any junk dealer or recycler, but does not include scrap iron, household generated waste, or aluminum beverage containers, as defined in Chapter 2 (commencing with Section 14502) of Division 12. See California Government Code 11045
  • secondhand dealer: as used in this article , means and includes any person, copartnership, firm, or corporation whose business includes buying, selling, trading, taking in pawn, accepting for sale on consignment, accepting for auctioning, or auctioning secondhand tangible personal property. See California Government Code 11111
  • Secretary: means the federal Secretary of Commerce. See California Government Code 55603.5
  • Secretary: means the secretary of the governing body or a person designated by him or her to perform a duty of the secretary. See California Education Code 88244
  • sell: means remanufacturing, retrofitting, selling, contracting to sell or resell, leasing, subletting, or otherwise placing in the stream of commerce. See California Government Code 11340.9
  • Short-term prediction: means a prediction of an earthquake that is expected to occur within a few hours to a few weeks. See California Government Code 31720.7
  • Significant decrease in voter turnout: means the voter turnout for a regularly scheduled election in a political subdivision is at least 25 percent less than the average voter turnout within that political subdivision for the previous four statewide general elections. See California Education Code 89525
  • site: means any area, location, or facility where a hazardous material has been released or threatens to be released into the environment. See California Government Code 11346.3
  • Site investigation: means those actions that are necessary to determine the full extent of a release or threatened release of a hazardous material at a hazardous materials release site, identify the public health and safety or environmental threat posed by the release or threatened release, collect data on possible remedies, and otherwise evaluate the hazardous materials release site for the purpose of implementing remedial action. See California Government Code 11346.3
  • Special sessions: as used in this division , means self-supporting instructional programs conducted by the California State University. See California Education Code 89708
  • state agencies: includes the Department of General Services and any and all organizational units, parts, and subdivisions of state agencies as defined in Section 11000. See California Government Code 11263
  • state agency: includes every state office, officer, department, division, bureau, board, and commission. See California Government Code 11000
  • state body: means each of the following:

    California Government Code 11121

  • State department: means the State Department of Public Health. See California Government Code 11011.18
  • state gambling license: means any license issued by the state that authorizes the person named therein to conduct a gambling operation. See California Government Code 55028
  • Supervising authority: means the board of supervisors of the county in which is situated all or most of the land of a district. See California Education Code 88244
  • tangible personal property: means all secondhand tangible personal property that bears a serial number or personalized initials or inscription or that, at the time it is acquired by the secondhand dealer, bears evidence of having had a serial number or personalized initials or inscription. See California Government Code 11113
  • trainee: means any person licensed under this chapter for the purpose of receiving comprehensive practical experience and instruction in clinical laboratory procedures in one of the sciences or in general clinical laboratory science under the direct and responsible supervision of a person authorized to direct a laboratory under the provisions of this chapter, clinical laboratory scientist, clinical chemist scientist, clinical microbiologist scientist, clinical toxicologist scientist, clinical immunohematologist scientist, clinical genetic molecular biologist scientist, clinical cytogeneticist scientist, clinical histocompatibility scientist, or other equivalent licensee in the science or specialty or subspecialty for which he or she is licensed in a clinical laboratory certified for this purpose by the department under this chapter. See California Education Code 56362.5
  • trustees: means the Trustees of the California State University, created under Section 66600. See California Education Code 89000
  • Usable segment: means a portion of a corridor that includes at least two stations. See California Welfare and Institutions Code 16525.29
  • Veterinary food-animal drugs: as used in this chapter shall include the following:

  • Voter: means a voter or elector as respectively defined in the principal act of each district or agency. See California Education Code 88244
  • Voter turnout: means the percentage of voters who are eligible to cast ballots within a given political subdivision who voted. See California Education Code 89525
  • Work permit: means any card, certificate, or permit issued by the commission, or by a county, city, or city and county, whether denominated as a work permit, registration card, or otherwise, authorizing the holder to be employed as a gambling enterprise employee or to serve as an independent agent. See California Government Code 55028
