Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 105 ILCS 5/11E-115

  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • State: when applied to different parts of the United States, may be construed to include the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
  • Statute: A law passed by a legislature.
     Neither the People of the State of Illinois, any person or corporation, private or public, nor any association of persons shall commence an action contesting either directly or indirectly the dissolution, division, annexation, or creation of any new school district under the provisions of this Article, unless the action is commenced within one year after the date of the election provided for in this Article if no proceedings to contest the election are duly instituted within the time permitted by law, or within one year after the final disposition of any proceedings that may be so instituted to contest the election; however, where a limitation of a shorter period is prescribed by statute, the shorter limitation shall apply, and the limitation set forth in this Section shall not apply to any order where the judge, body, or officer entering the order being challenged did not at the time of the entry of the order have jurisdiction of the subject matter.
