  • Pretrial conference: A meeting of the judge and lawyers to discuss which matters should be presented to the jury, to review evidence and witnesses, to set a timetable, and to discuss the settlement of the case.
  • Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence.

The court shall conduct a pretrial conference or conferences in accordance with Kan. Stat. Ann. § 60-216, and amendments thereto, upon request of either party or on the court’s own motion. Any pretrial conference shall be set on a date other than the date of trial and the parties shall be present or available within the courthouse.
