Terms Used In Louisiana Constitution Art. 6 Sec. 10

  • Governing authority: means the body which exercises the legislative functions of the political subdivision. See Louisiana Constitution Art. 6 Sec. 44
  • Political subdivision: means a parish, municipality, and any other unit of local government, including a school board and a special district, authorized by law to perform governmental functions. See Louisiana Constitution Art. 6 Sec. 44

Section 10.  Within two years after the effective date of this constitution, the governing authority of each political subdivision shall have a code prepared containing all of its general ordinances.  When the code is prepared, the governing authority shall make copies available for public distribution.  All general ordinances adopted after the approval of the code shall be amendments or additions to the code.
