Terms Used In Michigan Laws 388.682

  • Remainder: An interest in property that takes effect in the future at a specified time or after the occurrence of some event, such as the death of a life tenant.
  • Reorganization of school districts: means the formation of new school districts, the alteration of boundaries of established school districts, and the dissolution or disorganization of established school districts through or by means of any one or combination of the methods as set forth in this act. See Michigan Laws 388.681
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories. See Michigan Laws 8.3o
  • State committee: means the state committee for the reorganization of school districts created in this act. See Michigan Laws 388.681
   There is created, for the term of time necessary to complete the requirements of this act, a state committee for the reorganization of school districts, appointed by the governor, and composed of 7 members, at least 1 of whom shall represent the Upper Peninsula, 1 the area above the Bay City-Muskegon line, and 5 shall be appointed in such manner as to represent fairly the remainder of the state. The superintendent of public instruction shall be the nonvoting chairman of the committee. Vacancies shall be filled by appointment of the governor. Members of the state committee shall serve without compensation. The members of the committee shall be appointed within 60 days after the effective date of this act.
