  • Prosecute: To charge someone with a crime. A prosecutor tries a criminal case on behalf of the government.
  • State: when applied to any of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories, and the words "United States" includes such district and territories. See Missouri Laws 1.020

It shall be the duty of the city attorney to prosecute and defend all actions originating or pending in any court in this state to which the city is a party, or in which the interests of the city are involved, and shall, generally, perform all legal services required in behalf of the city.
