Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 40:20-78

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
If the clerk upon receipt of a proper order shall refuse or neglect to call or convene any special meeting of the board, he shall forfeit twenty-five dollars, to be recovered, with costs, in an action in any court of competent jurisdiction, in the name and for the use of the county.
