Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 40:20-9

  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. 40:20-9. The election provided for in section 40:20-8 of this title shall be deemed, so far as the question of the acceptance or rejection of sections 40:20-2 to 40:20-19 of this title is concerned, to be a special election, and shall be conducted by the county and district boards of registry and election in the same manner as other elections.

Notice of the election shall be given at the time and in the manner required for the primary election held on the same day, and the same boxes shall be used for the purposes of this election as are to be used for the purposes of the primary election, except that there shall be provided in each polling place, in addition to the boxes provided by law, a box to be known as the “nonpartisan box”.

Any person entitled to vote at the primary election for the general election, and any person who would be entitled to vote at the primary if he were a member of one of the two political parties for which primary boxes are provided, may vote hereunder on that day.

Transfers shall be issued as provided by the laws relating to elections.
