(A) Each emergency medical service organization shall appoint a medical director or a cooperating physician advisory board. The organization shall give notice of the name of its medical director or the names of the members of its cooperating physician advisory board to the state board of emergency medical, fire, and transportation services. The notice shall be made in writing.

  • Emergency medical service: includes such services performed before or during any transport of a patient, including transports between hospitals and transports to and from helicopters. See Ohio Code 4765.01
  • Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
  • in writing: includes any representation of words, letters, symbols, or figures; this provision does not affect any law relating to signatures. See Ohio Code 1.59
  • Physician: means an individual who holds a current, valid license issued under Chapter 4731 of the Revised Code authorizing the practice of medicine and surgery or osteopathic medicine and surgery. See Ohio Code 4765.01
  • state: means the state of Ohio. See Ohio Code 1.59

(B) To be eligible to serve as a medical director or member of a cooperating physician advisory board, an individual shall be a physician who meets the qualifications established in rules adopted under section 4765.11 of the Revised Code. In adopting the rules, the state board shall require that all physicians meet the same qualifications regarding medical experience and completion of a medical director course, subject to both of the following:

(1) With respect to medical experience, the state board shall not limit eligibility to only those physicians who have completed a residency or fellowship program in emergency medicine or a related area or who are certified or eligible to be certified in a specialty or subspecialty of emergency medicine or a related area.

(2) With respect to completion of a medical director course, the state board shall permit a physician who has completed a residency or fellowship program in emergency medicine or a related area to use completion of that program as evidence of completing a medical director course.
