Terms Used In South Carolina Code 6-21-480

  • Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
  • governing body: as used in this chapter shall be construed to mean, in the case of a county, the board of county commissioners or other like governing body thereof, in the case of a city or incorporated town, the board of commissioners, the mayor and council or other like governing body thereof and, in the case of a township, the board of county commissioners or other governing body of the county in which the township is located. See South Carolina Code 6-21-20
  • Remainder: An interest in property that takes effect in the future at a specified time or after the occurrence of some event, such as the death of a life tenant.
  • system: as used in this chapter shall include all of the projects and undertakings referred to in § 6-21-50. See South Carolina Code 6-21-40
If any surplus shall be accumulated in the operation and maintenance fund which shall be equal to the cost of operating and maintaining the system, project or combined system during the remainder of the calendar, operating or fiscal year, as provided by the authorizing ordinance, and the cost of operating and maintaining the system, project or combined system during the succeeding like calendar, operating or fiscal year, any such surplus may be transferred at any time by the governing body to the depreciation fund, the contingent fund or the bond and interest redemption fund.
