Terms Used In Tennessee Code 36-5-3101

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Law: includes decisional and statutory law and rules and regulations having the force of law. See Tennessee Code 36-5-2101
  • Obligor: means an individual against whom a support order has been entered. See Tennessee Code 36-5-3102

The purpose of this part is to provide a procedure for the enforcement of support obligations arising under the law against an obligor without a transfer of jurisdiction to modify the order. This part shall be liberally construed to effectuate its purposes.
