Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 40:47-20.10

  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. Any appointment to the police department of a municipality heretofore made of an individual otherwise qualified who on the date of appointment exceeded the maximum age for appointment by less than 10 months, after the allowance of credit for his military service in time of war, is hereby validated and confirmed and the continued employment of such person as a member of the police department is authorized, provided said appointment is confirmed by resolution of the governing body adopted within 30 days after the effective date of this act.
