1. For purposes of this section, “adult education” means integrated basic education and technical skills instruction.

Terms Used In Iowa Code 260C.50

  • Board: means a board of directors of a community college. See Iowa Code 260C.56
  • Department: means the department of education. See Iowa Code 260C.2
  • School: means an agency of the state or political subdivision of the state, individual, partnership, company, firm, society, trust, association, corporation, or any combination which meets any of the following criteria:
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories, and the words "United States" may include the said district and territories. See Iowa Code 4.1
  • State board: means the state board of education. See Iowa Code 260C.2
 2. The department and the community colleges shall jointly implement adult education to assist adults and youths sixteen years of age and older who are not in school in obtaining the knowledge and skills necessary for further education, work, and community involvement.
 3. The state board, in consultation with the community colleges, shall prescribe standards for adult education including but not limited to contextualized and integrated instruction, assessments, instructor qualification and professional development, data collection and reporting, and performance benchmarks.
 4. The state board, in consultation with the community colleges, shall adopt rules pursuant to chapter 17A to administer this section.
