  • Complaint: A written statement by the plaintiff stating the wrongs allegedly committed by the defendant.
  • person: may extend and be applied to bodies politic and corporate, and to partnerships and other unincorporated associations. See Missouri Laws 1.020
  • Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence.

The city marshal, chief of police or other police officer of any municipality shall, without a warrant, make arrests of any person who commits an offense in his presence, but such officer shall, before the trial, file a written complaint with the judge hearing violations of municipal ordinances.
