Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 40A:14-146.20

  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State.   • State: extends to and includes any State, territory or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia and the Canal Zone. See New Jersey Statutes 1:1-2
2. No person may be appointed as a housing authority police officer pursuant to section 1 of P.L.1997, c.210 (C. 40A:14-146.19) unless that person:

a. Is a resident of this State;

b. Is able to read, write and speak the English language and has a high school diploma or its equivalent;

c. Is sound in body and of good health;

d. Is of good moral character and has not been convicted of any offense involving dishonesty or which would make him unfit to perform the duties of the office; and

e. Has successfully undergone the same psychological testing that is required of all full-time police officers in the municipality.
