• Gift: A voluntary transfer or conveyance of property without consideration, or for less than full and adequate consideration based on fair market value.
• Gift aid: means all financial aid designated for the student's educational expenses, including a grant, scholarship, tuition waiver, fellowship stipend, or other third-party payment, that is not a loan or pursuant to a work-study program. See California Education Code 70047
• institution: means any public or private postsecondary educational institution in the state that receives, or benefits from, state-funded financial assistance or enrolls students who receive state-funded student financial assistance. See California Education Code 70047

• licensee: as used in this chapter means the holder of a physician's and surgeon's certificate or doctor of podiatric medicine's certificate, as the case may be, who is engaged in the professional practice authorized by the certificate under the jurisdiction of the appropriate board. • Private scholarship: means financial assistance awarded to students based on one or more factors, including, but not limited to, academic merit, talent, or a particular area of study, by a private company, foundation, or nonprofit organization, or a public charity or service group. • Scholarship displacement: means the reduction of institutional gift aid due to private scholarship awards. See California Education Code 70047
• State: means the State of California, unless applied to the different parts of the United States. See California Business and Professions Code 21
• Student: means any California resident that enrolls in any institution of higher education to obtain an undergraduate degree. See California Education Code 70047
• Student Aid Index: means , with respect to a student, an index that reflects an evaluation of a student's approximate financial resources to contribute toward the student's postsecondary education expenses for the academic year. See California Education Code 70047
• Subdivision: means a subdivision of the section in which that term occurs, unless some other section is expressly mentioned. See California Business and Professions Code 15
