  • Accepting county: means the county accepting transferred territory by reason of a county boundary change. See California Government Code 14074.2
  • administrative costs: means the amounts expended by the Legislature, the Legislative Counsel Bureau, the Governor's Office, the Department of Technology, the Office of Planning and Research, the Department of Justice, the State Controller's Office, the State Treasurer's Office, the State Personnel Board, the Department of Finance, the Department of Financial Information System for California, the Office of Administrative Law, the Department of Human Resources, the Secretary of California Health and Human Services, the California State Auditor's Office, and the California State Library, and a proration of any other cost to or expense of the state for services or facilities provided for the Legislature and the above agencies, for supervision or administration of the state government or for services to other state agencies. See California Government Code 11270
  • Affected county: means each county from which territory is proposed to be transferred to create a new county. See California Government Code 14181
  • Affected county: means each county which is proposed to be part of a consolidated county or which is consolidated with one or more counties. See California Government Code 14669.8
  • Agent: as used in this chapter , means a person acting in accordance with Title 9 (commencing with Section 2295) of Part 4 of Division 3 of the Civil Code for purposes of managing, operating, leasing, or performing a similar function with respect to a building subject to this chapter.   • Approved county: means the territory to be included in a new county after the registered voters in the affected county or counties have approved the creation of such a new county at a primary election, pursuant to Article 4 (commencing with Section 23350), but before an election is held for purposes of determining the location of the county seat and the selection of county officers for such new county, pursuant to Article 4.   • Attendance: means the number of children present at a child care and development facility. See California Education Code 8208
  • Building: as used in this chapter , means all or part of any "public and commercial building" as defined in Section 2642 of Title 15 of the United States Code, as that section reads on January 1, 1989, except that "building" shall not mean residential dwellings.   • California state preschool program: means part-day and full-day educational programs for low-income or otherwise disadvantaged three- and four-year-old children. See California Education Code 8208
  • Caregiver: means a person who provides direct care, supervision, and guidance to children in a child care and development facility. See California Education Code 8208
  • Child care and development programs: means those programs that offer a full range of services for children from infancy to 13 years of age, for any part of a day, by a public or private agency, in centers and family child care homes. See California Education Code 8208
  • Clerk: means the clerk of a county board of supervisors. See California Government Code 14181

  • Commission: means the California Transportation Commission. See California Government Code 31681.55

  • Community water system: means a public water system that serves at least 15 service connections used by yearlong residents or regularly serves at least 25 yearlong residents of the area served by the system. See California Health and Safety Code 116275
  • Construction: means any one or more of the following: preliminary planning to determine the feasibility of treatment works, engineering, architectural, legal, fiscal, or economic investigations or studies, surveys, designs, plans, working drawings, specifications, procedures, or other necessary actions, erection, building, acquisition, alteration, remodeling, improvement, or extension of treatment works, or the inspection or supervision of any of the foregoing items.   • Contamination: includes any equivalent effect resulting from the disposal of waste, whether or not waters of the state are affected. See California Health and Safety Code 116410
  • Contiguous: means territory which adjoins the boundary line of the proposed county. See California Government Code 14181
  • Cost: includes , but is not limited to, expenditures that are related to the operation of child care and development programs. See California Education Code 8208

  • Federal assistance: means funds available, or which may become available, to a supplier either directly or through allocation by the state from the federal government as grants or loans for the improvement of domestic water systems. See California Health and Safety Code 116053
  • Federal assistance: means funds available to a municipality either directly or through allocation by the state, from the federal government as grants for construction of treatment works, pursuant to Title II of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act, and acts amendatory thereof or supplementary thereto.   • Fund: means the California Safe Drinking Water Fund. See California Health and Safety Code 115885

  • Notice: includes all papers and orders required to be served in any proceedings before any court, board, or officer, or when required by law to be served independently of such proceeding. See California Government Code 26660

  • Recycled water: means water which, as a result of treatment of waste, is suitable for a direct beneficial use or a controlled use that would not otherwise occur and is therefor considered a valuable resource. See California Health and Safety Code 116410

  • Resident: means a person who physically occupies, whether by ownership, rental, lease, or other means, the same dwelling for at least 60 days of the year. See California Health and Safety Code 116275
  • Resort: as used in this article , means a resort, bathhouse, or other public place for the purpose of accommodating bathers, bordering upon or adjoining the seacoast or a lake where the public resort for the purpose of bathing in the open sea or lake.   • Support services: means those services that, when combined with child care and development services, help promote the healthy physical, mental, social, and emotional growth of children. See California Education Code 8208
  • Swimming pool: includes in-ground and aboveground structures and includes, but is not limited to, hot tubs, spas, portable spas, and nonportable wading pools. See California Health and Safety Code 115921
  • terminal: means the location or locations in this state that are designated by a motor carrier, where subject vehicles may be inspected by the department and where vehicle maintenance and inspection records and drivers' records will be made available for inspection.   • Transferring county: means the county from which territory is, or is proposed to be, transferred by reason of a county boundary change. See California Government Code 14074.2
  • User: means a person using water for domestic purposes. See California Health and Safety Code 116275
  • Waste: includes sewage and any and all other waste substances, liquid, solid, gaseous, or radioactive, associated with human habitation, or of human or animal origin, or from any producing, manufacturing, or processing operation, including waste placed within containers of whatever nature prior to, and for purposes of, disposal.
