As used in this Article:
Terms Used In California Government Code 53720
- City: includes "city and county" and "incorporated town" but does not include "unincorporated town" or "village. See California Education Code 19429
- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
- State: means the State of California, unless applied to the different parts of the United States. See California Education Code 19427
(a) “local government” means any county, city, city and county, including a chartered city or county, or any public or municipal corporation; and,
(b) “district” means an agency of the state, formed pursuant to general law or special act, for the local performance of governmental or proprietary functions within limited boundaries.
