1. A person commits the offense of sports bribery in the first degree if he or she gives, promises or offers any benefit to any participant or prospective participant in any sport or game with the purpose to influence him or her to lose or try to lose or cause to be lost or to limit the margin of victory in any sport or game in which the participant is taking part, or expects to take part, or has any duty or connection therewith.

2. The offense of sports bribery in the first degree is a class D felony.
